making a fresh start...

there is a tad of chaotic-ness in the house as we are redecorating a couple of rooms

...which is wonderful...

so where better place to be than my studio...

they say that out of chaos comes creativity...so here goes!

You can't beat just enjoying the feel, textures and colours of fabrics, with no aim in mind, just playing to see what emerges...inspired by this beautiful photo by Ian Lawson from his fabulous Hebridean exhibition and book 'From The Land Comes The Cloth'

I just love his eye for colour and texture, for detail, for the juxtaposition of nature with fabric...

so I pull out fabrics, keen to try out new ones with old friends

cut and lay out, keeping it small and simple

bringing in my embellisher to attach the fabrics to the base piece of blanket

it's such a beautiful day outside too, so my eye is drawn to the autumn on my window sill and out beyond...

choosing threads

the best bit is always stitching...

trying out ideas, maybe a little croft...

or some seedheads

and of course there are some delicious offcuts and scraps...

maybe just keep it plain and simple...for now

purpose achieved, stitching and creativity recommenced, maybe the chaos theory really works!

now back to the ceiling painting...which is not at all artistic but very necessary!

enjoy your week

september inspiration

a shift in the air, cooler mornings, a sense of quietening down...I love the change in seasons as we move from high summer and hot hot days...and soft rainy days...

icecream days by the sea, long woodland walks, reading endless books in peace and safe in the knowledge that all there is to do next is eat another delicious meal with family or friends...

a dream world of lazy summer days, and my greatest desire is to keep my relaxed 'holiday head' as we return home...

after 18 years of daughter raising we are celebrating her 'A' level and university place achievements, in a few weeks she will be off into the world...

and I am delighted and exited for her, and for me, as a new path is opening out, a different kind of motherhood awaits me, another surging wave of change... my surfboard may wobble but I am sure I will enjoy the opportunities ahead to expand and grow, as I head from the backwater out into the seas of life once more

I am different, and I am choosing to live my life in very different ways, more peaceful and calm, finding my way through my desires and feelings, led by heart not head, reflecting the changes I am seeing in the world, as we all evolve and grow.

Creativity is my joy and passion and I am looking forward to being able to accomplish more, to longer and more focused days in my studio and in making...

so we shall see...

enjoy the seasonal shift wherever you are...
