is it really nearly Christmas?

or am I dreaming? did I miss out on September and October when I usually start to think about Christmas, then do that thing where you think "right I've thought about it...now I don't actually need to do anything for ages"... and then suddenly December and it's ALMOST here!?

I love this time of year whatever the weather, I love going for walks and coming back into the warmth of the kitchen or to sit by a stove after a cold blast...I love the big skies, stark hedgerows and simplified 'black' trees, and we've even had a hint of snow

it's been quite a year, lots of challenges and new things to learn, to try and to do; daughter mine did her AS levels and then became a very grown up person as she headed into her final year at school...filling in of UCAS forms and decisions about her future to be made and trips taken to visit Universities up and down the country was our summer holiday...seems a very long time ago now

I've had lots of beautiful moments through the year, many times of deep gratitude for all the good things in my life, not least of which is the gift of creativity and the joy of sharing that with others, either through workshops, talks or exhibitions, with kindred spirits and friends, and I love how textiles and creating is both a practical thing and a way to join people together in the simple pleasure of making...it's a great mind relaxer and a wonderful way to make new friends!

I am allowing myself more freedom in how I work, I am opening up to new ideas and possibilities including more drawing and playing in sketchbooks and find it therapeutic as there is no need for an outcome, I just lose myself in the activity of drawing...

so I look forward to 2016 with open eyes and open heart ready to embrace what comes...ready with a crisp blank new diary to fill with wonderful people and events!

and I wish you all the merriest Christmas dear readers and thank you for being here...

see you in the New year

almost there...

you can always tell when a show is imminent...studio full of even more creative mess than usual and boxes tipped out and boxed piled up and fabric everywhere and scribbled notes to myself of things to remember to do and to take...

my studio becomes a hotbed of frenzied activity...well usually! Somehow this year because we actually set up on Monday I am feeling pretty relaxed, and I have had time to make and finish some things which were in my head to do in a fairly chilled fashion.

So it's been a real pleasure knowing all is set up to be able to get creative with fabrics and threads for a couple of last minute mini works of art...

and I am really happy with the textures and colours which emerged, it was lovely to play with a small scale (only about 3" square)

meanwhile along the road in the next village in a small whitewashed building ...'Take Six' have set up shop in Phil's workspace, normally his haven for wood and willow working, now hoovered and tidied...

open the door and a cornucopia of loveliness awaits our visitors... beautiful willow work by Phil Bradley, hand turned wood bowls from Jonathan Leech, wonderful prints and ceramics by Stephanie Leighton, gorgeous glass by Nikki Clark and textiles stitchery from Sarah Ames and myself...why not come with me inside and take a wee peek...

I love the mix of media, hard surfaces and soft, smooth and textured and the shapes and colours juxtaposed, creations from six individual artists and makers, all skilled and talented, a mix of traditional and contemporary in harmony...

our aim is to show our wares and to Make Christmas Easy!!

I'll see you on the other side! Have a wonderful snuggly December weekend,

in case you're wondering...

where I've been since October cos now it's November and Christmas is looming...it's been a wonderful few weeks of workshops! It's been pretty full on, back to back, and so wonderful to have my studio full of happy makers sewing and cutting and chatting...

we've been done creative free machining, stitching landscapes, embellishing and making stitched story mini-books! I love getting people out of their comfort zones and helping them to surprise themselves with what they can create...there's no pressure to produce, the aim is to explore lots of different fabrics and techniques and have fun playing...

it always amazes me the way how I can offer the same box of fabrics to 4 people and they all pick out what appeals to them and go create completely different pieces...I learn alongside and pick up hints and ideas as we go.

WOW! I am just about to put up next years dates for workshops...I'll let you know when they're on the website...

right now it's time to get some making done myself as 26th and 27th it's Art and Craft at The Kirkgate in Cockermouth...

then the best show ever, six of us in a Pop-up gallery at a local basket maker's workshop...more of that anon, must off and make tea now for my hungry family...

have a wonderful relaxing weekend
