the last stitching before Christmas...

I am slowly feeling my way towards Christmas, just trying to keep it all flowing, smooth and gentle with the emphasis on enjoying everything, I am a bit freer now after two exhibitions and no workshops, my end of term....and almost that of daughter mine and husband of patience...in fact any minute now the teenage u-tubers will be taking over from my blogging on the computer no doubt...so I'd best get on!

It's been a grand couple of months on the creative front, and a request for some brooches from the sister of a dear friend finally got to the top of the list...I love making one-off brooches, little mini works of art, playing with scraps of fabric and thread and my embellisher...I throw nothing away! Even threads left over from workshops in my 'scraps for recycling' bin are simply too good to waste...

Marion had given me some old woollens to felt and I had originally made her a brooch to say thanks...using some of her fabics was so appropriate...so here again they made the background to the brooches...then it was just playing with colours and textures

here's a tip for keeping your fabrics in place when embellishing...a little piece of net holds it all and you can pin that down if necessary...but watch out for the pins as you needlefelt! Then the net just lifts off and voila:

a lovely surface for stitching into...

my favourite part of the process...

stitched and ready for backing and a little more stitching...

I love the way the threads and fabrics mingle, it's like painting, mixing colours but so much easier, and you get texture too...

and here are the other brooches, all so different...

I just love all the stitching just meandering and mingling so you almost can't tell fabric from thread

for satisfaction and happiness...you can't beat it!

hope you have a relaxing pre-Christmas week too...

Emma xx
